Kevod Harav. We always used in our Shul plant decorations for Shavuot. Some board members suggested to change to plastic ones not only for the monetary savings since they can be reused, but also because it keeps the place clean. Is that permitted?

One may argue that one may be downgrading the minhag, as one would when offering plastic flowers as a visiting gift. However, as mentioned above, Horav Shlomo Miller’s Shlit’a opinion is that since decorating the shul with greenery is only a minhag and not a mitzva, it can be done for a benefit to the shul.
